Lack of Motivation

Sorry about this but I fell so out of it lately that I have been a terrible poster to the site. It's not that I want to be so lame but I have really no motivation to work much on this. I'm not happy with the layout and I don't know how to fix it, working on it has me feeling like I need hit in the face to feel better.

I hope to improve this once I get a job but for now, sorry...

Sony - No Plans To Add Netflix Streaming To PS3

In an interview Gamepro had with John Kohler, Senior Marketing Manager at SCEA about the future of the PS3 he revealed that they had no plans to integrate Netflix streaming on the PS3. They aren't developing any plans to allow internet streaming media solutions via the console at all.

The most recent Xbox 360 update added Netflix streaming support. Any word on possible Netflix integration on the PS3? Is Sony talking to Netflix?

We've concentrated most of our efforts on our download service, both rentals and downloads of movies and TV shows. Our efforts will continue to be there, because our customers want to own the content....I was in a focus group in New York recently, and the topic of Netflix came up with a group of Xbox 360 owners. [Most of] those people weren't aware of the Netflix agreement. Those that knew wanted to know the difference between Netflix streaming on the PC versus the Xbox 360. They discovered that it's obviously the same, and those people wanted to know what the "specialness" of that would be. The moderator mentioned that you could watch [the Netflix streams] in your living room. But many of the participants said, "but I could watch that on my laptop, too."

[In regards to the Netflix streaming on NXE,] there are certainly some positives for the Xbox 360. But there's also some confusion. It goes further into the argument of "owning the content" [versus renting or accessing it].

Now after reading that, just what does Sony's idea of content ownership entail? perhaps the terms and services might clear that up-

Guidelines for purchasing videos

  • Purchased videos have no time limit for viewing, so as long as no one violates the terms of the license agreement, the content can be viewed indefinitely
  • Purchased content can be played on a single PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and up to 3 PSP® portable entertainment systems simultaneously.
  • Purchased content can be downloaded to a single PLAYSTATION 3 or a single PSP system.
  • Content cannot be re-downloaded once it has been downloaded to either a PLAYSTATION 3 or PSP system
  • Any user on a PLAYSTATION 3 may begin playback of a purchased video once it has been downloaded to the system (unless some other restriction, such as parental controls, prevents them from playing back the content)
  • Videos cannot be transferred to any other storage device or copied onto a CD or DVD.

Ok, so owning a video means that if you delete it from your system you cannot get it back unless you buy it again? Thanks but no thanks, think I'll stick to my Xbox with Netflix.

New treminator salvation trailer released

Thanks to Dan Trachtenberg for posting this to twitter. The 2nd trailer for Terminator Salvation has been released, and I am very proud to present it to you here.

Note the awesome Termiocycles and the huge harvester at the end. McG has certainly set the bar high but unfortunately Christian Bale is still using his "I'm batman" voice.

Official Plot Synopsis: In the highly anticipated new installment of “The Terminator” film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

Vertigo Comic Fables to come to a TV near you

ABC has announced that they will be bringing the comic book Fables to television.

Created and written by Bill Willingham in 2002, The multiple Eisner Award winning comic is based in a world where fairy tale characters have been forced out of their homeland by an enemy known only as the Adversary. Now they live in a secret community in New York City known as Fabletown. The series will focus on The Big Bad Wolf and Snow White.

Having read the entire Fables series, I highly suggest picking the trade paperbacks up from Amazon.

Journeyman Is Thor?

The Marvel Studios movie version of Thor may remind you of a certain time-traveling cop. Journeyman's Kevin McKidd is apparently in talks to wield the mighty Mjöllnir.

McKidd told IGN that "there's been a lot of back and forth" with Marvel about him taking on the role of the Thor in both his upcoming solo movie and the 2011 Avengers film, as well as confirming that Kenneth Branagh will be directing Thor, keep in mind Marvel has not officially confirmed any of this.

McKidd wasn't the first Brit offered the role, James Bond actor Daniel Craig has previously talked about having to turn down the part due to his Bond duties.

NXE: The New Xbox Experience

On the 19th of November Microsoft released its much anticipated fall update for the Xbox 360. And as is with all change there was both joy and confusion because of it.

The entire look of the system was redone in a way that eireilly reminds you of an Apple design. With the layout changes also came

  • Netflix instantly streaming in HD: ok, this is great. Only one problem, nobody thought Sony wouldn't like their films on the 360, so we still cant watch all of the streaming capable movies.
  • Xbox LIVE Party: now all your buddies can join you as you hop from game to game, I actually like this idea.
  • All new avatars: Please don't call them Mii's.
  • On-demand entertainment: Yeah, we've had this on the 360 for a few years now...
  • Games for the community, by the community: Allowing XNA Studio game creators a much wider audience and bolster the indie developer much like in the early days of the PC.
  • Install your games to the hard drive: Sweet Jesus, that's a long time coming. The PC has only been doing that for about 25 years (and the PS3 for the last year). But as someone who's previous 360 had a dvd drive fail I'll take anything that makes the machine work less.

The way these pros and cons add up I like it, though it certainly isn't without its flaws.

Here's a tip - don't try playing Halo 3 off of the hard drive, just don't.
